What is not covered by dental insurance?

Dental insurance is a good all-encompassing policy, and does not have many exclusions. However, here are a few pointers worth remembering:

  • General dental treatment can only be claimed after the first 3 months from the day the plan starts. This is known as a qualifying period.
  • There is normally a 14-day qualifying period before you will be covered for a dental emergency.
  • General dental treatment and dental emergencies are not included for anyone under the age of 18, because under 18's are entitled to receive free treatment under the NHS.
  • Dental conditions already existing at the time of signing the policy will not be covered.
