Hot Topics
- Can you be refused Travel Insurance?
- Insurance is all about risk. The greater the risk of an illness, accident, loss or another event occurring, the higher the premium you will be expected to pay for cover. If the Insurance Company decides that the chances of an incident occurring are extremely high, it is not obliged to insure you.
- What are the different types travel insurance and which should you choose?
- Travel Insurance policies vary from one provider to another. Generally speaking, the higher the premium, the more comprehensive the cover. However, this isn’t always the case. So you should check the policy to ensure that you are getting the most appropriate type and level of cover.
- Is it possible to get cheaper travel insurance for a couple?
- Yes, if you and your partner are travelling together, you stand to save even more money with a joint travel insurance policy.
- How do you make a claim on your Travel Insurance Policy?
- If you need to make a claim, contact the Insurance Company that issued your policy as quickly as possible. You’ll find full details explaining what to do in the booklet that came with your policy. Don’t forget to take the booklet and a note of your policy number with you!
- What insurance cover do you need to drive abroad?
- If you are driving your own car or hiring a car whilst you are abroad you need to have appropriate car insurance in addition to travel insurance.
In all these instances, standard travel insurance is unlikely to meet your needs. Quite simply, single trip insurance and annual or multi-trip policies only cover trips lasting under 90 days.
So if you are going away for a longer period and planning to visit different countries, backpackers travel insurance or worldwide travel insurance is your best option.
By the way, if you change your itiniary and decide to visit different countries than those stated on your travel insurance application form, you must inform your travel insurer to avoid invalidating your cover.
This is because the cost of medical treatment varies from one country to another and the further away you are, the more expensive it is to get you home - factors which your Travel Insurance Company will have taken into consideration when they calculated your original premium.
