my wife has left me leaving an overdraft of more than 2500 on our joint account - but i did not spend that money. what can i do?

best to check the legal situation with a solicitor. but as far as i am aware joint account holders are jointly liable for any overdraft. speak to you bank and get the account frozen so that the wife cannot spend more and open a new account just in your name.
