Phil,

Critical illness insurance has a much higher chance of a claim below are some handy statistics to illustrate the point.

1 in 5 men suffer a critical illness before their normal retirement age
1 in 6 women face a retirement blighted by critical illness
78% of stroke victims survive for at least 1 year
35% of men who develop cancer survive at least 5 years
46% of women who develop cancer survive at least 5 years

Critical illness insurance is primarily designed to pay for lost income and additional care in the event of a critical illness.

In that respect life insurance is fundamentally different. Life Insurance is designed to care for your dependants after you die.

Critical illness is usually added to life insurance whereas life insurance is often purchased on its own.

Hop this helps you to make your decision

Cheers,
