Hi there,
Obviously you can take out critical illness cover for yourself and your partner. Your children cannot have their own policies until they are 18 years old. However, some insurers will provide automatic and free cover for children under 18 under a policy for one, or both, of their parents. The terms vary between insurers but the maximum lump sum payout for a critical illness relating to a child is often around £25,000. If you have more children after you have taken the policy out, they too are normally automatically covered once they have reached 1 year old.
As the conditions of cover for children do vary between insurers, you should go through a broker who can advise you about which insurance company will best suit you.
