Compensation for a Motorbike Accident

According to the Department of Transport, motorbikes account for just 1% of the traffic on Britain 's roads yet motorcyclists and their pillion passengers account for between 20 and 22% of all the fatalities and serious injuries in road traffic accidents.

Within those statistics, approximately 60% of motorbike accidents involve collisions with other cars, often because other road users fail to see them at road junctions or during overtaking manoeuvres. Other causes of motorbike accidents include loss of control, inexperienced drivers, mechanical error, pot holes in the road and even oil spills.

It's obvious that accidents involving motorbikes can cause serious injury, mainly because the rider will be either thrown from their motorbike or trapped under their motorcycle - some of which can weigh up to 350 kilos!

That's why all motorcyclists should take steps to avoid becoming another casualty figure. For example, keep to the legal speed limit, avoid overtaking on corners, leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front, signal before making turns and keep your bike well serviced and in a safe condition. And before you venture out onto the road for the first time, we suggest you get motorcycle driving lessons. If you increase your driving skills before you venture out on to the roads you'll decrease your chances of having a serious accident.

By law you must wear a safety helmet when riding a motorcycle. You should also consider using the following items:

  • visors or goggles
  • gloves and gauntlets
  • protective clothing
  • boots
  • visibility aids

It is also recommended that you turn your lights on.

But despite these safety aspects, there are always going to be accidents and whilst it might not be your fault, the chances are that you will receive an injury as a result.

So if you have been injured in a motorbike accident and it can be shown that another party's negligence has caused the accident, then you will probably want to make a claim for compensation. If so, Claims Justice are here to help you.

Just complete our enquiry form and an experienced Claims Adviser will call you from Claims Justice. They'll talk over how the accident happened, establish a few details and then agree with you the best way to take your compensation claim forward.
