I have a critical illness policy but it costs me £55 a month. I've just added up how much I send on insurance each month and it comes to £285 -that include my car insurance, home insurance and life insurance. I need to cut this cost down. Can you suggest anything?

Criticl Illness cover isn't cheap because there is a significant chance that you'll make a claim - there's a 1 in 5 chance you'd make a claim before your 65 birthday. Anyway, I do understand the pressures on you to cut your insurance premiums.

The best bet is to go online and get new quotes for your life insurance and your critical illness insurnce. If you can get it cheaper, then make a formal application and after you have cover confirmed by your new insurer, then cancel your existing policies. If you bought your existing cover within the last 10 years there's a real chance that you will be able to get the same cover for less.

As for you car and home insurance, you should get new quotes just before your existing policies reach their renewal dates.
