did my father have a policy?

If your father had a life insurance policy he would have been paying regular monthly premiums. So get hold of his last 2/3 bank statements and look for the payments. You will then be able to identify the insurance company. If you have any problems finding how to contact that insurabnce company, simply enter their name on Google and find their web site. If that does not work, contact the Association of British Insurers and they will give you contact details.

PS It is possible to pay life insurance policies with one annual premium but less than half of a percent of policies are paid that way. If you think your father might have paid annually, you might have to look through a years worth of bank statements!
