Chased to pay a debt I do not owe

Please help. I'm being chased to repay a bill by a debt collector but I have never dealt with that company they say I owe money to. The debt collector does not seem to beleve me. What can I do?

You could be the victim of identity fraud. It is possible that a fraudster has obtained your details to apply and used them to apply for credit. They use your name but quote your address as their previous address. (That's how the debt collector tracked you down.) Once they have credit, they buy goods with no intention of paying and you end up copping for it.
You need to contact one of the three major credit agencies to check your credit file and if i am right, the details they supply will confirm my fears. I suggest you phone Experian on 0844 481 8000 and they will tell you what to do. (The other two large credit agencies are Equifax and Callcredit)
