I am english and own a flat in London and need to have the flat and contents insured. But I am not resident in the UK, I live in the States. I am having a lot of trouble finding UK insurance companies that deal with people that are not resident in the UK, and therefore finding any competitive rates. Any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks.

I've had to do some research on this one!

One of the conditions on all standard home insurance policies is that you must live in the property as your first home and not regularly leave it unattended for more than 30 days (some specify 90 days). You cannot take up a standard policy beause you do not meet those criteria because you live in the States.

But you can still get the house insured! You have two options: if you rent the property out, take out a Landlords policy; if it is not rented out, you can take out a 2nd home insurance policy. DirectLine.com sell both of these types of policy as do lots of others - so i suggest you search online.

Come back to me if you have any problems.
